For some reason, today’s Morning Journal audio file is live on the Alexa flash briefings network. Yesterday’s never made it. Here is the conversation I had with Darlene and Deb earlier today:
The 3-Minute Solution
Before I turn to our top memories from Lyon, here is a a travel tip:
If you are traveling with someone—a partner or a whole group—consider starting each day with three minutes of silence.
That’s what Darlene, Deb, and I have done these past three days in Lyon. After the silence we each say what we hope the day will bring. It’s amazing how the pause prepares us to speak with more calm and to listen with more attention than if we had jumped right into looming disagreement on the day’s possibilities.
One thing all three of us agree on is that our Sunday visit to the ancient Roman Theatre at Fourvière was unforgettable.
Yesterday we visited the Maison des Canuts, a museum about the history of silk weaving in Lyon. Today we followed up with L’Atelier de Soierie, a silk-painting workshop and boutique just off the Place des Terreaux.
As I finish up today’s post, Deb and Darlene are exploring shops around the square. I’m at a café with my tech gear.
On my Paperwhite, I’m enjoying The Great Swindle by Pierre Lemaitre, in translation to English. At a bookstore yesterday near the silk museum, I found the book in the original French, titled Au revoir là-haut. I seldom read books in print, but I couldn’t resist buying Lemaitre’s pleasingly thick book as a companion and souvenir.
