Two Things to Consider
When asking ChatGPT a question on a smartphone or tablet, tap and hold while you are speaking. If you tap to begin speaking and lift your finger, Chat will listen until they think you are done. If you have more to say, the interruption can be disconcerting.
Talk in a normal voice, the way you would talk to a friend. It’s not like dictating a text message, where you try to choose your words carefully to make sure the text is correct. Speaking a prompt to ChatGPT is way less formal.
When I suggested that second tip to Darlene while editing the Morning Journal audio, she said she’s afraid ChatGPT won’t be able to follow what she’s saying if she speaks freely.
“How does Marie follow you?" I asked. Marie is a good friend of ours here in Ocean Park, Maine.
“That’s different. Marie can read between the lines of what I’m saying.”
I suggested gently—I knew I was at the outer limit of how much Darlene was willing to learn from her wordy husband in one morning—that if she practices with Chat on her own she might be surprised that AI can read between the lines, too.
End of lesson. I hope this was helpful!
