Porch Visit with Fran
We hear the surf but can’t see it
We talk and listen for
what we don’t know about
each other yet.
Sometimes a pattern emerges—
a thread, a meme, a new religion
of creatives bending
toward the light and
the fury of being alive
by the ocean—
always hoping,
never walking away unchanged.
Fran Betlyon, my niece, told me yesterday how she listens to a song over and over when it seems the song has something to teach her. That made me think about repetition as part of my own creative process and the way I learn.
AI Pin suggested it’s about creating muscle memory in the brain.
My son-in-law Josh this morning showed me a new way to serve in pickleball. I know it will improve my game, but I will need to practice it a few hundred times before it’s mine.
That’s it. Till tomorrow…
Honored to make the Substack! I love this poem.
